Hi everyone,I would like to enlighten you al on the way that,in my opinion, the system works in relation to people who have a disability and are trying to get financial help from the government or a private insurer.Medical care in Canada is concerned with 2 areas, emergency medicine to treat people due to trauma and life threatining illneses. They put most attention on keeping people alive and everything else is not of concern to them so the help you may get from your doctor is noy enough. Abnormalities that are found in medical testing are often reported as being minor when they may be much more serious. I have been fighting a disability for over 2 years. I have been diagnosed with severe Vertibral Subluxations(nerve damage) that is causing abdominal pain and problems with the function of my left leg. This has been diagnosed by my Chiropractor which is not acceptable as a disability in the eyes of the government. Why?BECAUSE CHIROPRACTORS ARE NOT ON THE GOVERNMENT PAYROLL. Chiropractors are after all doctors or they wouldent be allowed to treat people. Private medical insurance covers chiropractic care but their opinion in relation to diagnosis is not accepted. I have seen 2 doctors and 3 specialists in relation to my disability but none have been helpfull at all except to say that my problem is related to a musculoskeletal disorder. I have arthritis in my lower spine to the point where it is almost fused (this was reported by a radiologist at the hospital as minor degeneration in my lower back).Damage to my lumbar spine is causing scoliosis in my upper spine of about 20 degrees, very visable on Ct Scan but not reported by the radioligist. I have subluxations at T4,T5,T8,T12,L1,L2,L3 vertebra. This was determined by Xray and EMG scans done by my Chiropractor.I know this is fact because the treatment makes me feel better and his advise has been very helpfull to me. My doctors answer was to feed me painkillers. Although the NBA have tryed to help me get the disability tax credit I have been refused,my doctor would not cooperate with me or them. The forms were not correctly filled out. My thanks go out to the NBA as they tryed their best to get the benifits that I am entitled to. Look at it this way folks,if you are at work do you have to do what your boss tells you?Of course you do unless its unsafe.Who are the doctors bosses? THE GOVERNMENT. The government is concerned with cost not peoples health. If you need financial help you may have to fight for it but people with a disability often don’t have the strength to do this. The government and private insurers know this and take full advantage. I now have to return to work even though I have pain and difficulty walking or I may end up homeless. By returning to work I know I will be unsafe and unproductive but what choise do I have. Listen to the people from the NBA,they know what to do and will fight for you. I pray that things go well for you and your health and disability improves. Many Thanks to the NBA even though things did not work out for me.
